Last Thursday, Hendon 2 faced Hendon 3 in the last internal Middlesex League match of the season.
Despite Hendon 2 once again out-rating their opponents on every board, Hendon 3 made a mockery of my ongoing efforts to engineer a win for the higher team, holding the Tigers to a 3–3 tie!

While the previous meeting between the two teams on 24th October was a triumph for youth over experience (with Peter Hazell and Callum Hill scoring 1½/2 against opposition rated over 100 points higher), this match was the reverse, with adults scoring 2½/3 for Hendon 3 against higher-rated junior opposition on Boards 1, 3 and 6.
This meant that all four of our internal matches this season have ended in 3–3 ties: a remarkable outcome!
Many thanks to everyone who played, and congratulations to those who won their games or drew against higher-rated opposition.
