At the Cumberland Club on Thursday, Hendon 1 held Hackney to a 3–3 tie in the Middlesex League, despite being out-rated on all boards by an average of 150 points (albeit aided by a default on Board 5). Special congratulations to Ethan Sanitt for defeating International Master Richard Bates on Board 1!
On the same evening, Hendon 4 faced Division 3 leaders Muswell Hill 2. Unfortunately our team was out-rated by an average of 248 points, meaning that despite starting 2–0 up due to defaults, we ultimately lost 3½–2½.
Here’s the full match scorecard for the Hendon 1 match. Congratulations to captain Eric Eedle for scoring our other win of the evening!

This result has probably ended Hackney’s already slim hopes of catching up to the Division 1 leaders; the title this year will almost certainly go to Muswell Hill 1 or Hammersmith 1, who play each other this Tuesday in a match which will probably decide the championship.
Here’s the Hendon 4 match scorecard. Well done to Arun who scored a creditable draw with Muswell Hill captain Simon Brougham; otherwise this match was sadly rather lacking in good news.
